78. A Slick Escape Plan

The overwhelming pressure had gotten to the sleight shoulders of the princess.  Rosella pressed on the large main
doors of the castle and made her way out onto the stone pathway leading back down the mountain.  She had lost all her
courage and allowed her fear for her own safety dictate her decisions.  Rosella began to scamper down the winding
stone pathway in her awkward heels, trembling with fear when a voice stopped her in her tracks.

“Wait!”  Rosella turned to see who it was, finding herself face to face with a shocked looking Jenna.  “You coward!  How
can you run away?”  The accusations hit the princess with almost physical pain, but her guilt was obvious on her face,
and she could think of no words to defend her cowardly departure.  “You’ve left Genesta and the other fairies to perish
at the hands of Lolotte!”  Once again, Rosella was speechless, but the shame was coloring her face.  Summoning up
the courage to beg Jenna for forgiveness, she found it was too late.  The tiny fairy had already begun working her
hands in furious magic.  Rosella cowered under the glowing power, but it was no good.  A warm light enveloped her
slender body and she felt her very form contort chaotically.  Her body seemed to move and shape as though jelly until
the light faded and only a pile of clothes lay on the stony path.  Rosella was gone.  Jenna crossed her arms over her
chest and waited a few moments to admire her handy work.  The crumpled red gown and wrinkled white pantyhose
began to stir until out popped a tiny salamander from the waistband of the wrinkly white nylons.

Princess Rosella looked around with her new bug-like eyes at the giant world around her.  Her beautiful white skin was
now a slick, green, and slimy.  She had been reduced to a salamander to live out the rest of her days in Tamir.  Crawling
around on the rocks, Rosella acclimated to her new humbling existence and prayed she could avoid the hungry claws of
the hawks that watched from the skies.  She would spend the rest of her days as a coward.
