18. Sweet Dreams
Considering herself a sharp young lady, Rosella decided “why should I go and do the dirty work, when my
shoes may very well float on over to me without me ever having to wade into this disgusting water.”  She
turned her nose up with a royal snobbish air.  Seeing as it might take a little while, the princess, found herself
a nice little spot of dry moss that appeared to be nice and plush.  The seat was accommodating even by the
girl’s royal standards she thought with a satisfied smile.
Rosella watched with a growing boredom as her favorite heels bobbed in place, getting no closer, and yet no
further at the same time.  The minutes passed uneventfully as the princess remained vigilant, while the lifelike
humidity of the swamp began to wear on the girl.  She pulled at her dress where it clung to her, and stretched
at her nylons desperately trying to get some cool air on her tired legs.  Sweat dripped from her beat red face,
down onto her glistening collarbone as she began to feel tired.
While she fought to keep a close eye on her shoes, Rosella couldn’t find the strength to sit up any more, and
she lowered herself onto her side.  The moss was so comfortable, and it was so hot out, a short little nap
couldn’t hurt.  Besides it didn’t look like her shoes were going anywhere.  The weary princess gave into to
her overwhelming desire, closing her eyes, she drifted off into a deep slumber.
Rosella’s poor judgment got the better of her, but she would never know this.  Her blissful little nap turned
out to be her last.  The swamp was no place for a young girl to be sleeping!  While she lay there dreaming
about how lovely she would look at he ball that evening, the cobra had woken from its nap and slithered over
to find the slumbering girl.  She had gone and let herself become an easy prey, and as a result got a generous
dosage of snake venom injected into her stocking foot.  Unconsciously, she stirred in her sleep, reaching
down to rub the bite, thinking it only a bothersome bug.  Rosella would never know the comedy of her errors!
